Microsoft and Lambda Forge Major AI Infrastructure Deal with Nvidia Hardware
Lambda, a cloud computing specialist, has secured a significant partnership with Microsoft to construct artificial intelligence infrastructure leveraging tens of thousands of Nvidia GPUs. The deal underscores the accelerating corporate arms race in AI compute capacity as demand surges for tools like ChatGPT and Claude.
The collaboration builds on a relationship dating to 2018, with Lambda providing cloud services to over 200,000 developers. Nvidia's GB300 NVL72 systems will FORM the backbone of the new infrastructure, mirroring deployments by other hyperscale providers. "We're witnessing history's largest technology buildout," said Lambda CEO Stephen Balaban, praising Nvidia's industry-leading AI accelerators.
To meet exploding demand, Lambda is expanding its physical data center footprint. The deal terms remain undisclosed, but the scale reflects the trillion-dollar opportunity in generative AI infrastructure. Microsoft continues to lead enterprise adoption, having committed over $13 billion to OpenAI alone.
